I have now begun performing female tubal sterilization procedures in my office. There is a new technique available that offers great results with minimal risk. There is even a lower risk of serious injury than laparoscopic tubal ligation and the recovery is much, much faster. Patients usually only experience cramping similar to menstrual cramps. No painful incisions!!!
The Essure procedure allows women who are absolutely finished with childbearing the opportunity to permanently prevent future pregnancy without taking hormonal birth control.
The nice thing about Essure hysteroscopic sterilization is that it can be performed in my office without anesthesia or sedation if desired. A small camera is inserted through the cervix into the uterine cavity. While directly visualizing the tubal openings, a small coil is diercted into the tube. After placing the coil, the body begins to scar the tubal opening, thus closing it off.
A special x-ray test must be done 3 months after the Essure procedure to confirm that the tubes are blocked.
A link to the Essure website is available in the link list to the right.
A description of minimally invasive surgical procedures for gynecologic surgery. You will be able to learn about your options for surgery. Laparoscopy is surgery through small one centimeter incisions. There is no need for large, painful incisions. Many surgeries are considered "Out Patient". Laparoscopy allows a less painful, quicker recovery through incisions covered by only a bandaid.

This site offers a discussion of available minimally invasive options for treatment of common gynecologic problems. Patients are always presented with available medical and surgical options for management. Even observation is presented when it is appropriate. I also include discussion of options that are available that I may not offer.
